Across West Africa and beyond, there are individuals and institutions whose dedication, excellence, leadership and contributions continue to shape communities, advance industries, preserve cultural heritage and create meaningful pathways for future generations.
Some have distinguished themselves through decades of professional service. Others have championed humanitarian causes, transformed their industries, advanced knowledge, strengthened institutions, preserved our cultural identity or committed their lives to the progress and well-being of others.
Their contributions deserve to be acknowledged, their achievements deserve to be celebrated, and their legacies deserve to be recognised.
It is in this spirit that the West African Citizens Awards (WAFRIC Awards) presents its 2026 Honorary Recognition initiative.
A Recognition Beyond Competition
Unlike competitive award categories, WAFRIC Honorary Recognition is an independent recognition initiative dedicated to identifying and honouring individuals and institutions whose exceptional contributions, achievements and impact merit distinguished acknowledgement.
It is not determined by popularity, public voting or social media following. Rather, it places emphasis on merit, demonstrated accomplishments, professional distinction, service, influence and meaningful contributions to society.
Our vision extends beyond conventional boundaries of recognition. We seek to acknowledge outstanding West Africans, wherever they may be in the world, as well as individuals and institutions from other parts of the world whose work has made significant contributions to West Africa and its people.
Who Deserves to Be Recognised?
We believe that excellence takes many forms and that meaningful contributions can emerge from every sector of society.
From public service to entrepreneurship, education to healthcare, arts and culture to humanitarian development, science and innovation to community leadership, there are remarkable stories of commitment and achievement worthy of recognition.
We are particularly interested in discovering individuals and institutions whose contributions demonstrate:
- Exceptional Achievement: A distinguished record of accomplishment, excellence and professional or institutional advancement.
- Meaningful Impact: Demonstrable contributions that have positively influenced lives, communities, industries or society.
- Leadership and Service: A commitment to responsibility, service, innovation and the advancement of others.
- Cultural and Continental Value: Contributions that strengthen West African identity, heritage, cooperation, development and international recognition.
- Enduring Legacy: Work and achievements whose significance extends beyond personal success and creates lasting value for present and future generations.
An Invitation to Participate
WAFRIC Awards invites members of the public, professionals, institutions, organisations, associations and stakeholders across West Africa and the international community to recommend deserving individuals and institutions for consideration for the 2026 Honorary Recognition.
You may recommend an accomplished professional, a distinguished personality, a community builder, an exceptional leader, a humanitarian, an institution or an organisation whose contributions you believe merit recognition.
Self-recommendations are also welcome.
Every recommendation provides an opportunity to discover a remarkable story, examine an exceptional contribution and bring deserving achievements to greater attention.
Our Commitment to Merit and Integrity
All recommendations received will undergo independent research, verification and assessment by WAFRIC Awards. The final selection of honorary recipients rests exclusively with the organisation, in accordance with its assessment process and recognition standards.
Submitting a recommendation is entirely free and does not constitute an automatic nomination, guarantee of selection or entitlement to an honorary recognition.
WAFRIC Awards remains committed to ensuring that every honorary recognition conferred represents genuine merit, distinguished contribution and a worthy reason for celebration.
