Nominee: Chinenye Adeleye
Category: Social Media Influencer of the Year
Country: Nigeria
Edition: West African Citizens Awards 2026
Influence is often measured by visibility, audience size and online engagement. But beyond the numbers, digital influence can also be measured by what people are able to do because someone shared the right information at the right time.
For Chinenye Adeleye, that distinction is central to her approach to social media. A Nigerian social entrepreneur, project manager, youth development advocate and founder of Volunteers Hub Africa, she has built a professional identity around sharing useful information, connecting people to opportunities and encouraging personal and professional growth.
Her digital presence covers subjects including career development, employability, leadership, volunteering, project management, women’s empowerment, youth development and personal growth. Rather than positioning herself solely as an entertainer or lifestyle personality, she uses her platforms to make information and opportunities more accessible to people seeking direction and advancement.

The Person Behind the Platform
Chinenye’s professional journey brings together psychology, social entrepreneurship, project management and community development.
She holds a degree in Counselling Psychology, an academic background that has informed her interest in human potential, personal development and the structures that help people grow.
In a December 2024 interview with Tribune Online, she explained that her transition into social entrepreneurship, education technology and project management was a natural extension of her interest in empowering people. She described how her understanding of human behaviour and development helped shape the programmes and interventions she designs.
Her work has involved developing teams, coordinating projects, supporting organisations and creating opportunities for young people and women. These experiences also provide the professional foundation for the information she shares online.
Her public professional profile identifies her as a Project Management Professional (PMP®), and documents her work in learning and development, alongside her leadership and community-development activities.
Volunteers Hub Africa: Building a Community of Change-Makers
One of the most significant parts of Chinenye’s journey is Volunteers Hub Africa, an organisation she founded in February 2018.
The initiative began as Ibadan Volunteers Hub before expanding its identity and geographical ambitions. Its central idea was to connect skilled volunteers with non-profit organisations and community initiatives that needed human capacity to deliver their projects.
In an early interview with the University of Ibadan’s Union of Campus Journalists in December 2018, Chinenye explained that the organisation also provided volunteer support for corporate events and seminars, including ushering, protocol and registration services. She saw volunteering as a way for young people to develop leadership, teamwork, communication and management skills while contributing to society.
The organisation subsequently developed a broader volunteer network and a more structured approach to connecting professionals with non-profit organisations.
By December 2024, Chinenye told Tribune Online that Volunteers Hub Africa had trained and mentored more than 2,000 women and young people in non-profit endeavours. She also discussed the organisation’s volunteer-outsourcing model, which helps non-profits access skilled people and improve project delivery.
This work is important to understanding her digital influence. Her online communication is connected to practical experience in building communities, supporting professional development and helping people discover ways to contribute their skills.
Sharing Information and Making Opportunities Accessible
Chinenye’s approach to digital communication is particularly visible in the subjects she consistently shares with her audience.
Her content and professional updates cover opportunities relating to employment, training, volunteering, leadership, professional development, project management and personal growth.
She has described herself as someone who believes that people can achieve more when they have access to the right information. This philosophy also explains why she is comfortable sharing resources and opportunities rather than treating information as something to be withheld.
In a LinkedIn post announcing her nomination for the WAFRIC Awards 2026, she reflected on how this approach shaped her online identity. She explained that people began referring to her as “the plug” because she regularly shared information that could help others access opportunities, develop professionally and make progress.
The post also revealed that her intention was not originally to become an influencer. Rather, she wanted to use her voice to help people grow. Over time, that commitment to sharing useful information created an audience and opened opportunities for her to speak, contribute to projects and connect people with valuable resources.
This is a distinctive form of influence: one in which the value of a post is not limited to likes or comments, but may be found in the opportunity someone discovers, the skill someone develops or the connection someone makes after encountering it.
Extending Influence into Youth and Women’s Development
Chinenye’s professional activities also reflect a sustained interest in the development of young people and women.
Through her work with the Youths in Animation and Post Production Initiative (YAPPI), she has been involved in efforts to expand access to skills and opportunities within Africa’s creative industries.
In her 2024 Tribune Online interview, she discussed the initiative’s partnership with the Mastercard Foundation and its ambition to train 60,000 young creatives, with particular attention to women and persons with disabilities.
She described the initiative as more than technical training, emphasising the importance of representation and economic opportunities for people who have traditionally faced barriers to entry in the creative sector.
Her community-development work has also included digital literacy programmes for women in rural communities. In the same interview, she highlighted a programme that trained more than 500 women, helping participants develop skills that could support business creation and improve their economic opportunities.
These engagements reinforce the connection between her professional work and the themes of her digital communication. The information she shares online is part of a wider interest in helping people access knowledge, skills and pathways to economic participation.
Influence Beyond Social Media
Chinenye’s work has also involved responsibilities and contributions outside her own digital platforms.
Her professional profile documents leadership and advisory involvement with organisations working in youth development, education and community empowerment. She has also participated in conversations and programmes focused on leadership, volunteering, employability and professional growth.
Her recognition as one of the women featured in the NextGen 26: 26 African Women Under 35 Shaping the Future of Work list further reflects the growing visibility of her work at the intersection of social entrepreneurship and professional development.
For Chinenye, influence is therefore not confined to being present online. It is also reflected in the communities she helps build, the initiatives she contributes to and the people who encounter opportunities through the information she shares.
